Rapa Nui neemt u mee naar de jaren voor de officiële ontdekking van Paaseiland. Het eiland werd beroemd door de enorme mysterieuze uit steen gehouwen koppen en was bewoond door kanibalen, die dachten dat ze de enige bewoners van de wereld waren. Elk jaar vindt er tussen twee stammen een bizarre wedstrijd plaats. Het begint met een zwemtocht in een baai vol bloeddorstige haaien en eindigt aan de top van een steile rotswand. De winnaar is een jaar lang de Grote Leider. Ten tijde van deze strijd wordt een jongen van de ene stam verliefd op een meisje van de tegenstanders. Dat leidt tot een heftige confrontatie, waarbij beide stammen dood en verderf niet uit de weg gaan.
